Back

German-English Academy

History: The German-English Academy, located in downtown Milwaukee, was built in 1891 by architects Crane & Barkhausen who implemented a neo-Romanesque style.

Scope: To inspect the concrete and masonry façade, evaluate the steel structure, and replace defective brick.

Challenge: Remove brick carefully to not damage adjacent masonry or interior wall surfaces.

Result: The restoration of all masonry and cracked terra cotta pieces and the replacement of defective brick and mortar with matching materials to coordinate with the existing wall line.
